Published in Wichita, Kansas newspaper Former Wichitan Dies in CaliforniaMrs. Elizabeth J. Stephens, 87, who formerly lived at 531 South Sycamore, died Wednesday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. O. B. Wolfe, in Visalia, Calif. She was born June 4, 1865, and lived in Wichita from 1918 until 1944 when she moved to California to make her home. She was a member of the Methodist church and the Rebekah lodge at Quinted (should be Quinter), Kan. Her husband, Allen A. Stephens, died in 1940.Survivors include two other daughters, Mrs. Ray Woodmansee, Pleasant Hope, Mo., and Mrs. Don Fossey, Nickerson, Kan.: five sons, Harry C., of Englewood, Calif., Chester C., of Visalia, Ralph T., of 1915 Jackson, Charles W., of 222 South Meridian, and Verne L., of 217 South Gordon: 26 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Culbertson mortuary chapel Saturday at 2 p. m. Dr. Vernon Reffner, pastor of the Wellington Place Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Wichita Park cemetery. Note: Obituary states the Ralph T. Stephens is living at 1915 Jackson (in Wichita). This is the address that Ralph's Aunt Laura Stephens Smith and her husband Albert Smith lived at in the early 1920's as evidenced by the letters transcribed in this site. |
